Q. What do I need in order to use Annex?
Firefox 3
FTP access to your website
an internet connection
Q. What does my website need in order to use Annex?
Your website had to support FTP (file transfer protocol) and you have to access to your website files. Sometimes you have FTP access to a folder on your server that is just a public folder and not the website files, make sure your access is to the files.
You can check by opening up My Computer and in the address box at the top type in your server address (ex. ftp.mysite.com). When a box pops up with an error, just click ok, then right click on the blank white space and selet Login As... Next a box will prompt your for your username and password. When you log in you should see your files, you have the right folder if you find a bunch of html, htm files there with one being index.html
Q. What is my root folder?
Your root folder is the folder that contains your website's homepage. If you can't find it on your own, you can log into your website via FTP and find it from there.
In windows, open My Computer and type in your FTP server in the address box at the top. (ex. ftp.mysite.com). Next click ok when and error pops up. Then right click on the blank white space and select Login As... Next a box will pop up prompting your for your username and password. Once in you can start navigating around to find your home page. You are looking for a folder that has a file called "index.html" or "index.htm" There will be only 1 in each folder, but each folder will have one, you will need to open each one up in firefox and check if that is indeed your homepage. Once found, the folder that conains that index file is your root.
Q. I have FTP info but Annex won't download the page
Double check the site you typed in for preferences. Sometimes you might have put wwww or ww instead of www.
Also check to make sure your root folder is correct.
Q. I could save before, but now I can't
If you were able to save once before, close firefox completely and then start it back up and try.
Q. The flash on my page dissapears
When you undo, or use the HTML editor the flash on your page disapears. We are working on this issue, however after you save the flash is still actually there.
Q. I don't see any .html in the address bar
some websites hide the .html, you can type in /index.html at the end of the URL and hit enter. If the page doesn't look the same, then that page most likely is not a static HTML page that cannot be edited with annex.
There may also the be the case that your page is a frames page. If you right click on your page and have the option to "Open Frame in New Tab", then you page is built with frames. Just open that page in a new tab to edit that page with annex.
